(A Vietnam War story about Flies, 1971)

That was a very hot afternoon within the bullets dump, inside ammo shack-consisting of two rooms, walls made out of plywood, floors or vase of long solid wood boards-flat timber regarding the most component, you might see by means of their cracks, located crooked alongside one particular another; also the shack was the smite lopsided, nearly wobbly, and extremely broken. Planted in four by several beams underneath the floorboards, about a 50 percent foot high, between the soft white yellow sand that surrounded that, giving a playground intended for the lizards to engage in excitement, unnoticed.

5.56 ammo in stock taken a semi outdated ‘Stars and Pieces, ‘ magazine with me at night when I had to navigate to the bullets shack (where all of us soldiers did our own paperwork for aide and distributing involving ammunition towards the convoys arriving from a number of locations within the area.

I carried that old ‘Stars and even Strips, ‘ magazine for a 30 days, until a fresh one came out there, and used that to swish aside flies. They were everywhere in the rounds shack-we were infested with them, with their very own buzzing around since if we have been invaders: fat and even thin bellied data; some dark some others light shads regarding dark, long in addition to short winged lures, biting your palms and face, plus ears, behind your neck, swarming all-around you, sneaking up your shirt sleeves, scuba diving into your sight as if they were small punishing missiles, trained by the Vietcong to annoy a person. -me, us!

There were dead or declining flies, also strolling flies on all the three desks in the two rooms of the shack, filling the atmosphere with putrid debris, aiming toward one’s mouth, yet quite content whenever they missed, and merely landed on your current lips. They polluted everything, clinging, in addition to climbing, and also some crawling, inside their fastest gait possible, especially the big fat bellied ones, they would try to acquire away but I’d swat them, unfortunately leaving a dumpy-bloody mess, I seriously tried to simply scare them away, although like I said before-or implied, they were already brained washed and ready in order to sacrifice their lives for the lead to.
